Wangfujing – dekat mall, street food, dan banyak hotel dari budget sampai luxury (misalnya Novotel Peace, Hilton Garden Inn, atau Peking Station Hostel untuk budget).
Qianmen / Dashilan – area heritage, dekat Tiananmen, banyak hotel tradisional bergaya hutong.
Pilih hotel dengan akses mudah ke Airport Express Line atau taksi supaya hemat waktu.

Betul sekali — dengan waktu transit 22 jam dan kedatangan sudah malam jam 18:40, praktis Anda hanya punya setengah hari keesokan harinya sebelum harus kembali ke bandara.
Ke Tembok Besar China (bahkan yang terdekat seperti Mutianyu atau Badaling) butuh:
Perjalanan pergi–pulang: 3–4 jam total dari pusat kota
Kunjungan di lokasi: minimal 2 jam
Plus waktu untuk makan & kembali ambil bagasi → berarti hampir habis setengah hari sendiri
Kalau dipaksakan, memang bisa, tapi:
Harus berangkat sangat pagi (sekitar jam 6:00)
Tidak bisa santai, waktu di Tembok hanya sebentar
Risiko terlambat ke bandara cukup tinggi, apalagi kalau lalu lintas padat
Jadi untuk transit singkat seperti ini, saya sarankan fokus ke kota Beijing saja — Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven — supaya perjalanan aman dan nyaman.
Kalau mau ke Tembok Besar, lebih ideal kalau punya 1 hari penuh atau lebih.

Tiket pesawat lanjutan ke negara ketiga (bukan kembali ke Indonesia)
Kedatangan dan keberangkatan dari bandara yang sama di Beijing
Dengan demikian, Anda bisa keluar dari bandara tanpa perlu mengurus visa sebelumnya.
Rekomendasi wisata untuk 16 jam transit:
Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City – Ikonik dan bersejarah, sekitar 1 jam perjalanan dari bandara dengan taksi.
Temple of Heaven – Arsitektur dan taman indah.
Wangfujing Street – Cocok untuk belanja dan mencoba kuliner khas Beijing.
Transportasi dari/ke bandara:
Didi Chuxing (setara Uber di China, bisa pilih English version di aplikasinya) – cara paling mudah dan cepat.
Airport Express Train – ke pusat kota, lalu lanjut subway/taksi.
Sebaiknya berangkat kembali ke bandara 3 jam sebelum penerbangan untuk menghindari risiko terlambat.
Hi! I am planning on going to Korea and have a layover but my flight arrives to Beijing at 13h40 in December and I am living the next day at 9 am. Do you think it is possible to get to the Great Wall or should I forget it and focus on the Forbidden City only?
That’s a great question — with your layover schedule, the Forbidden City won’t really be possible. In winter, last entry is around 15:30, and by the time you clear immigration and reach the city center (≈1 hr from the airport), you’ll already be too late.
For the Great Wall, you do still have an option:
Simatai Great Wall (Night Visit)
Simatai is the only section that opens at night. It’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Beijing Capital Airport. If you land at 13:40 and head straight there with a private driver, you could arrive in time for the evening opening. You’d get to enjoy the illuminated wall and Gubei Water Town atmosphere — a very unique experience. Afterward, you could either stay overnight nearby or drive back to a Beijing hotel to be closer to the airport for your 9:00 flight.
Other Great Wall Sections (Daytime only)
Places like Mutianyu, Jinshanling, or Badaling close around 17:00 in winter. With your arrival time, you wouldn’t realistically make it before last entry.
Best option with your timing: Forget the Forbidden City, consider Simatai for a night Great Wall visit. If you prefer something easier/closer, you could just stay in Beijing city center, stroll around Wangfujing, Houhai, or the hutongs, then rest before your morning flight.

At this point I don’t feel confident driving in the city, therefore, would it make sense to rent a driver for the day or at least from the airport to the Great wall back to the forbidden city? Yes, we can absolutely arrange a private driver for you. This is the most convenient option for a layover, especially if you’re not comfortable driving in the city. A driver can pick you up directly from the airport, take you to the Great Wall, then to the Forbidden City, and finally bring you back to the airport or your hotel.
Just a quick note about the airports:
If you arrive at PEK (Capital Airport), the driver will meet you in the arrivals hall with a sign.
If you arrive at PKX (Daxing Airport), the driver will also meet you inside the arrivals area at the designated pickup point.
As for ride-hailing: Uber/Grab don’t operate in Beijing, and the local app (Didi) can be difficult to use without Chinese or a local number — so a private driver is the easiest and most reliable solution.
