Brief Introduction of the Longqing gorge Beijing
Longqing gorge is the best place to escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing. Not only during winter time, for the Longqingxia ice lantern festival, but also during spring, summer and autumn. This gorge is usually reputed to be the ‘Little Three Gorges’ of the Yangtze River, and has clear waters, curious stones, wooded mountain and wonderful karst caves.
The Longqing Gorge is located in the northeast of Yanqing County, about 85 kilometers away from Beijing downtown, a bit further north than Badaling Great Wall.

The top-rated attractions in Longqing Gorge include Baihua (hundred Flowers) cave, Longqing Gorge Cruise, Jingang temples and the Shenxianyuan (Immortal).
River cruise & winter fall (dam)
Taking a cruise would be the best and relaxing way to enjoy the scenery around Longqing. Near the entrance, a grand waterfall plummets down 50 meters from the dam above. A long, dragon-shaped escalator carries visitors to the dam. Once at the top of the escalator, you catch a boat around the Gorge.
Along the river, you will be able to see heavily forested steep cliffs and bare limestone in different amazing shapes, eroded by the power of water.
To some extent, it looks like Li River. Most of the rocks and hills here are given names such as Immortal Taoist temple, Comb hill, Jingang Temple and Flowers cave. The Comb Hill which is also called Solitary beauty peak is one of the most popular spots for those who visit Longqing gorge.
This hill is approximately 70 meters (230feet) high and surrounded by water. Comb hill is regarded as a major landmark in Longqing gorge. Another place that you should visit is the Flowers Cave which covers 0.74 acres (3,000 square meters).
Longqing gorge is also popular for its ice lantern show during winter from January to February. Even though each year has its own unique theme, the beautiful icefall against the dam is always the highlight. Do you want to see the amazing combination of human creativity and natural wonder? Things to do in Longqing Gorge
Some of the things to do in Longqing Gorge including taking flying rope, taking a cruise to enjoy the view around the reservoir, bungee jumping and so on. These projects require you to have the courage to meet the challenge.
Taking flying rope
This is a good way to cross rivers, mountains or mountain streams by a pulley and slide in mountaineering expeditions. This project is between two cliffs in the gorge and is 200 m long. The equipment used are all imported, safe and reliable. Taking flying rope will make you feel like you are flying in the sky.
This is a challenging sport loved by thrill seekers. Bungee jumping platform is on a cliff found near Jingang temple and is 48 meters high. The platform is highly secure meaning that bungee jumping in Longqing is safe. So, it may be a good idea to try this sport when you visit Longqing area.
Best time to visit
September and October and mid-January to late February are typically the best times to visit Longqing Gorge. In September and October, the weather is fine and cool with less rain. During this time, the gorge is dressed in red and yellow leaves making the area beautiful.
Winter occurs from mid-January to late February and it is during this time that Ice and Snow Festival is held. This festival is usually popular among visitors who visit Longqing gorge.
How to get to The Longqing Gorge in Beijing
By bus: Take Bus 919 from Deshengmen Bus Terminal and get off at Yanqing County and change for Bus 920 for Longqing Gorge
By train: take S train to Yanqing County then take shuttle bus to Longqing gorge or hire a taxi.
By car: About 2 hours with little traffic. Drive along Badaling Expressway (Jingzang Expressway) and exit from Exit 62, pass by Yanqing County, then follow directions.
You can rent a car through a travel agent to take you from Beijing downtown to get to the gorge area. The last bus from Longqing Gorge should be around 5 to 6 pm. It is recommended to spend one day tour to visit the gorge from Beijing.
