Hello,
I’ve found your blog and I would like to have some help about the tickets to enter the scenic area.
I will come from Datong with a private driver who will leave us in the parking outside the scenic area and I will stay with my husband at the Marriott Hotel (which is inside the scenic area).
We will arrive on March the 24th around 4pm and we will leave on March the 26th around 8 am. The hotel informed us that we need to have tickets before entry the scenic area, but they do not speak english so I need some infos 🙂
How many tickets do I have to buy and where?
Many many thanks,
Emma
Hello Emma,
Thanks for reaching out — happy to help.
Based on what you described (Marriott Hotel inside the scenic area), you and your husband will need to buy Mount Wutai Scenic Area entry tickets before you can pass the checkpoint and enter the scenic area.
1) How many tickets do you need?
✅ 2 entry tickets total (1 per person) — for you and your husband.
Good news: the Mount Wutai scenic-area entry ticket is typically valid for multiple days (so it will cover your stay from March 24 (around 4pm) to March 26 (around 8am) without needing to buy daily tickets again).
2) Where / how to buy the tickets?
You have two easy options:
Option A (recommended): Buy online in advance (WeChat)
WeChat Official Account: “五台山游客服务中心”
Menu: 预约通道 → 门票预约
Choose your entry date and time slot, then fill in passport details and pay.
After payment, you’ll receive a confirmation/QR code. You can scan at the checkpoint with your passport.
Option B: Buy on-site at the entrance Visitor Service Center
When your driver drops you at the parking / entrance area, you can purchase tickets at the official ticketing area and then enter through the checkpoint.
3) About your private driver
Since your driver will leave you at the parking outside the scenic area, you usually do not need any vehicle permit/reservation.
(Only vehicles entering the scenic area may require a separate vehicle reservation/approval.)
Quick tip for your arrival time (4pm)
Arriving at 4pm is fine — just make sure you have your tickets ready before you reach the entry checkpoint.
Best
Ricky
