Hi
How to make reservation for Chairman Mao Memorial Hall through wechat? I can’t find anything (
You’re absolutely right about needing to make a reservation to visit Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Here’s a super easy way to do it: You can book your visit through the WeChat public account “毛主席纪念堂” up to 6 days in advance. I know it might seem a bit challenging due to the high number of visitors, but I totally recommend giving it a try. It’s definitely worth it to experience this important part of history!
Step One: Begin by following the official account. Next, navigate to the “Admiration Reservation” section and select “Individual Reservation”. From there, proceed to the “Personal Center” located in the upper right corner and fill in your “Personal Information”. It’s crucial to complete this step well in advance to ensure your information is ready.
Step Two: Once you have completed the initial setup, you can anticipate the ticket release at 12:30 PM. However, it’s generally quite challenging to secure a ticket at this time due to high demand.
Step Three: A lesser-known opportunity exists for ticket reservations at 12:50 PM. Contrary to common belief, tickets are not only released at 12:30 PM; there is also a chance to obtain them between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. Securing a reservation at 12:50 PM is significantly easier. To increase your chances, it’s advisable to set an alarm and be ready to select “Individual Reservation” promptly at 12:50 PM, followed by choosing your preferred time slot.
Hi Ricky, I love your Website, super helpful! Do I need to make a reservation for Jingshan Park and if so, how do I make a reservation? Thank you and greetings from Germany, Felix
Hi Felix,
Thanks for the kind words about our website! For Jingshan Park, you don’t need to make a reservation in advance. You can easily buy tickets when you get there.
Your web is very helpful!!
I would like to ask you how to book the Lama temple tickets through WeChat.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Hi Irene, You can search for “Yonghe Temple Visitor Services” (雍和宫游客信众服务) on WeChat, follow the steps, and book tickets online.
Tickets can be purchased online daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The first hour after opening, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, is usually less crowded. It’s best to arrive early if your schedule allows, as visitor numbers increase after 10:00 AM. There’s no need to arrive too early, however, as there are no lines at the entrance when it opens at 8:30 AM.
In the afternoon, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, there are generally fewer visitors compared to the morning. Be mindful of the last ticket sale time!
Great Wall Mutianyu- do we need to book an entrance fee IN ADVANCE for visiting Mutianyu great wall? We have a driver who will take us on Saturday 11 th May . Thanks a lot for the info you have shared on this site.

Hi Ricky
Are the miniprograms all in Chinese only?
Am I the only one having this issue and everyother tourist reading your guide(or any other guides on booking tourist attractions in Beijing for that matter) is actually fluent in reading and speaking Chinese?
Please let me know
Thank you in advance
Best
Luca
Hi Luca,
Yes, the mini-programs are all in Chinese. You might find a translation app helpful to navigate them. Don’t worry, you’re not alone—many tourists use translation tools to assist them!
Hi! I was trying to pre-book tickets to Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace (both via WeChat and via the website). Even if I log in with WeChat, it requires me to ‘bind’ with a phone number and it appears that it accepts only Chinese phone numbers. Is that correct? Is there no way to pre-book these two sights without a Chinese phone number?
Thanks in advance!
Natalia
Yes, that’s correct—pre-booking tickets for the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace usually requires a Chinese cell phone number. Since you don’t have one, you have a couple of options: You can either buy the tickets on the spot when you arrive, or use a third-party booking platform. Keep in mind that third-party platforms might charge a small handling fee. Either way, you’ll be able to enjoy your visits!
Thanks for reaching out, and have a great trip!
Ricky
Hi!
Do I need to have a Chinese number to be able to make a reservation for Tiananmen square or I can use WeChat for this purpose without foreign number?
Thanks!
You can make a reservation for Tiananmen Square using WeChat, even without a Chinese phone number.
WeChat is very convenient for various bookings in China, including sites around Tiananmen Square. Although it is possible to register on WeChat with a foreign phone number, some services within China might still require a Chinese phone number for verification or booking purposes. It’s advisable to check the specific requirements for the service you intend to use.
If you discover that a Chinese phone number is necessary, you can purchase a temporary SIM card upon your arrival in China.
Can I buy a ticket with a student discount if I am a student at a foreign university? Is a domestic student ID enough, or do I need an international student ID? If I buy a ticket to the Forbidden City with a student discount and it turns out that I cannot use this discount, will I be able to enter on the same day after paying the difference in price, or will I have to buy a new ticket for another day?
Yes, you can buy a ticket to the Forbidden City with a student discount if you are a student at a foreign university. You might need to show an international student ID to get this discount. If it turns out you can’t use the discount, you can still enter on the same day by paying the extra amount needed.
Have a great visit!
hi, im trying to book for tiananmen square and summer palace via the mini program of we chat, but when im entering my singapore number, it prompt error/ invalid number, any alternatives? or other means of booking slot?
It looks like you need a Chinese phone number for the booking. If you don’t have one, I recommend asking your hotel or guide to help with the booking, or you can use a local booking service.
Hello Ricky,
So if I understand well, if I buy a ticket to forbidden city (any ticket, Viator or Trip), I will have access to Tiananmen square the same day? Moreover, exit of forbidden city is in Jingshan Park (to which we have access?)?
Thanks,
Charles
Hi Charles,
Great questions!
Yes, if you buy a ticket to the Forbidden City (from Viator, Trip.com, or any source), you can visit Tiananmen Square on the same day.
When you exit the Forbidden City from the north gate, you’ll be close to Jingshan Park. Access to Jingshan Park isn’t included with your Forbidden City ticket, but you can enter the park by purchasing a small ticket at the entrance. It’s definitely worth it—the park offers amazing views over the Forbidden City!
Hope this helps, and enjoy your visit!
Hello Ricky,
Great website…
For the summer palace, on Viator and Trip I find the basic entrance ticket but there seems to be extras Wenchang Ge, Dede Yuan. Are they included? Or how do we get tickets?
Thanks
Charles
Hi Charles,
Thanks for your kind words!
You can easily get tickets to Wenchang Ge and Dehe Yuan when you arrive at the Summer Palace. Just head to the ticket office, and they’ll help you purchase them.
Enjoy your visit!
Good evening,
Can the tickets for the Lama Temple and the Temple of Heaven be bought on site?
Do I need to make a reservation for the tickets for the Beihai Park?
I’m visiting Beijing in April.
Many thanks
Good evening!
Yes, you can buy tickets on-site for the Lama Temple, the Temple of Heaven, and the Beihai Park, no need to reserve tickets in advance.
Enjoy your time in Beijing!
Thank you, Ricky. Does that mean that the requirement for foreigners to reserve entrance for the Beihai Park the day before the planned visit has been removed? Some websites, even official ones, still say it’s compulsory.
Good evening,
Why do official websites still say that for Jingshan Park and Beihai Park foreigners need to register the day before by calling a certain number and tickets won’t be sold on site?
This is just an example: https://english.beijing.gov.cn/specials/parktours/guidevisitors/jingshanpark/
Good evening!
Thanks for sharing that! It’s true that, as of March 2023, visitors to Jingshan Park were required to call a day ahead to register, but since then, it seems the policy has relaxed. Now, tickets are available on-site, and pre-registration isn’t always needed. Sometimes, official sites take a bit longer to update their information, which may be why it’s still listed that way.
Hope this helps clear things up!
Hello,
I’ve read that foreigners can buy the tickets for the Forbidden City on the day of the visit. Is it true?
It appears that some who cannot buy them online, do it on site. Could you confirm?
I have a foreign mobile number, do you know if I can buy the tickets through WeChat Mini Program for the attractions (as you suggest) or if I need to buy them through Viator?
Hi Paul, Thank you for your question!
WeChat Mini Program doesn’t accept foreign mobile numbers, so if you don’t have a Chinese mobile number, I recommend purchasing the tickets through Viator instead. It’s a reliable option for securing your tickets in advance.
Hello,
I’ve read that foreigners can buy the tickets for the Forbidden City on the day of the visit. Is it true?
It appears that some who cannot buy them online, do it on site. Could you confirm?
Thank you for your question! While I’ve heard of some visitors successfully purchasing tickets on-site, the official Forbidden City website does not list this as an option. Therefore, there’s no guarantee that tickets will be available for purchase on the day of your visit.
To avoid any uncertainty, I recommend booking the tickets in advance to avoid any disappointments.
